Behind the house, outside the hall door, is the Tour Bellanda the most famous landmark in Nice. Culturally, Nice is renowned for its many very old Churches, 20 Museums, a world renowned Opera House, many theatres, hundreds of fine art shops and of course eating! There are over 3,000 restaurants in the Nice area and you can eat in a different one every day for a year – all within walking distance of the villa. Its buzzing tiny streets packed with Art Galleries and restaurants - mainly French but also Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Creole – and wonderful local Nicean cuisine. There’s even one specialising in Irish Cooking. The tiny shops sell every conceivable range of product you would ever want – just see the Pasta Shops, the Olive Oil shops, the Perfumeries!
Tuesday to Sunday (6am to 1pm) there is a Vegetable and Flower Market - and great value. On Mondays it transforms into the largest weekly Antique Market in Southern France. Also, on a square off this market, there is a Book Fair every second Saturday. There is a fantastic nightlife in Nice – especially in the Old Town. Pubs are common, as well as Brasseries, and every few streets will have a nightclub some specialising in Jazz, others Latino or contemporary music.

Port Barcares lies between the Mediterranean sea and a large lake. The beach is wide and sandy and has an EC Award. The Port has many leisure boats and a good selection of shops and restaurants to visit in the evening.
The region around Perpignan is of great interest, here you can combine a beach holiday with excursions to explore the foothills of the Pyrenees. Villefranche is an interesting town where you can take 'the little yellow train' for a fascinating trip into the Pyrenees. Barcares Village has a regular market with local produce and in Port Barcares there is a a Sea Water Thalassotherapy treatment centre. In July and August the resort throngs with visitors. Cap Leucate is a landmark for both seafarers and migrating birds. It is a popular area for hikers and mountain bikers.
Port Barcares is located on the Golfe du Lion and is home to one of the largest marinas on the French Mediterranean coast the other being at nearby Port Leucate. The Superb beach is Blue Flag and 5 Miles long. It is home to the Lydia, a 100 metre Steamship built in 1931 and deliberately run aground in 1967. The Lydia has been converted into a Casino, Museum and Nightclub and is extremely popular having its own Miss Lydia elected every two weeks during the summer. The area around Barcares is renowned for its seafood, particularly Oysters which are celebrated with a week long festival in March. Wine Production is as important as fishing in this, France's largest wine producing region. August being an essential season for the peninsula where you can taste a wide range of local wines such as Corbiere, Fitou, Muscat de Rivesaltes and Minervois.
The beach is good for families as there are lifeguards on duty throughout high season. Barcares Grand Plage is vast and even during high season there is loads of room for everyone. 2 Km away between Barcares and Leucate there is a naturist beach for those seeking an all-over tan. Activities available are swimming, sailing schools, windsurfing schools, scuba diving, water skiing, go-karting and quad biking. Cycle hire is available. Sea fishing, boat and sailing trips are readily available in Port Barcares. There are tennis courts and horse riding schools in Barcares, and a championship golf course at St Cyprien (20 Km).
On average the area receives 300 days of sunshine a year. During the summer the temperature is usually around 30 degrees with very little rain.

RyanAir fly from Stansted to Perpignan which is 14 miles away. FlyBe fly daily in summer from Birmingham and Southampton to Perpignan. RyanAir fly from Stansted, East Midlands and Liverpool to Gerona (Spain) which is 75 Minutes by car. RyanAir also fly to Carcassone and Toulouse (90 Minutes). British Airways fly to Toulouse from Birmingham.

Our farmhouse in Aillac is a spacious and traditional stone house offering comfortable accommodation for up to 11 in four bedrooms. It has been renovated with all the character maintained. Its 10m by 5m swimming pool is fully terraced and alarmed. It is set in 7 acres of its own grounds within the Perigord National Park. Aillac is a small hamlet of houses in the commune of the beautiful village of St. Pierre de Frugie. It is situated on the edge of the Dordogne, bordering the Limousin. The cities of Limoges and Perigueux are approximately 40 minutes away. We are just 5 kms from either La Coquille or Chalus for everyday shopping and services. Limoges airport is 40 minutes away by car, so we are secluded without being isolated. Aillac has everything you need for a relaxing time in the heart of the French countryside.
Farmhouse location - Perigord Vert / Limousin borders
Midway between Limoges and Perigueux, the house is 2 km away from the beautiful village of St. Pierre de Frugie. Nearby are the towns of La Coquille and Chalus - where Richard the Lionheart was fatally wounded. The prehistoric caves at Les Eyzies and old towns such as Brantome, Bergerac and St. Emilion are within reasonable distance. The farmhouse is set within Parc Naturel du Perigord-Limousin (Perigord Vert) where beautiful countryside surrounds you.
The Farmhouse facilities
There are four large bedrooms over two floors. The master bedroom (30 sq m) is a lovely dual aspect room with super-king size bed and exposed beams on ceiling and walls. There is a magnificent open fireplace in this bedroom and a door leading directly to a herb garden. It is a fantastic place to watch the early morning wildlife as you look over the pool. Bedroom 2 (30 sq m) is also on this floor with twin beds and dual aspect, overlooking the front and side gardens. On the top floor there are two further bedrooms and bathroom. Bedroom 3 (25 sq m) has a double bed and a single bed (sleeping 3) with a PlayStation (PS2) with games. Bedroom 4 (20sq m) has 2 sets of twin beds (sleeping 4), a small TV, video recorder and a PS1.

VendeeDescription: The Villa
Situated in the beautiful Mervent Forest, with local restaurants just a few minutes walk away, the villa is ideally situated to explore the many attractions of the Vendee. The landscaped gardens measure some 1.5 acres and enclose a fenced swimming pool (6m x 12m) with roman steps, and a fenced pond. The lounge, with satellite TV, music system, & feature fireplace adjoins the dining room, which has a balcony overlooking the gardens and swimming pool. The kitchen is very well equipped and has a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, & gas cooker. There is a laundry room with a washing machine, drying and ironing facilities. There are two bathrooms, one on each floor. Each contains a bath with a shower and each floor has separate toilet. The ground floor has one double and one twin bedroom. The first floor has two double and one twin bedroom. A cot and highchair are also on hand for the very little members of your group. Outside, there are enough sunbeds for everyone to enjoy those lazy days by the pool. During the evenings, the large barbecue has been very popular with our guests for alfresco dining. The pool can been utilized late into the night as underwater lights are available to floodlight the water. A small welcome pack is provided for your refreshment on arrival. During the cooler months, the villa is fully centrally heated and there are plenty of seasoned logs provided for the open fire in the lounge.
The Local Area
Just five minutes walk takes you to the lake. Here you may hire a dinghy, motorboat or for the fit, a pedaloe! Fishing is very popular and mayy be enjoyed after the purchase of a permit from the local post office in the village. Ten minutes walk in the opposite direction will bring you to a delightful local zoo, particularly attractive for the younger members of your group. Boule, table tennis and horse riding are among the many other activities available locally, full details of which are available from the tourist office, also located in the village. The renowned village of Vouvant is about ten minutes drive away and is well worth a visit.. There are many Chateau to be seen locally, some open to tourists during the summer months. Although it can be very hot in the summer there are some lovely walks in the forest and designated pinic areas prove very popular with both the locals and the tourists. Ten kilometres to the south is the old Vendeen capital, Fonteny-le-Comte. Here you will find the large supermarkets and many restaurants, street cafes, and bars so typical of France.
Further Afield
Although in a very quiet area, you can easily reach the more lively resorts of La Rochelle and Les Sables D'lonnes.
There is so much to see in the region, however, for the more adventourous, visits may be made to the neighbouring towns of Niort, Poitier,Parthenay and beyond.

MinervoisDescription: The House
The house is entered through a large iron gate which opens to the courtyard, which is surrounded by a 15-ft wall and wings of the property on the other three sides. The property is about 250 years old and has been completely renovated and furnished. In the main unit, there are six bedrooms and 3 bathrooms upstairs. Downstairs is very open and airy and has a gourmet kitchen with a large fireplace. There is also a sitting area, a games area, a living area and a laundry room with toilet. The cottage has two bedrooms and a shower room. There is also a living room and kitchen. The huge courtyard contains the new swimming pool which is elevated and surrounded by a stone balustrade.The
The Village
The house is located in the middle of the village of Ventenac about 15 km north-west of Narbonne. Ventenac, with about 350 inhabitants, is an unspoiled sleepy village situated on the beautiful tree-lined Canal du Midi and is set within the Minervois vineyards. The village has two restaurants, with pleasant outside dining, next to the Canal du Midi, as well as a post office, and bakery. The beautiful Chateau, is the focal point of the village. The Chateau is the place to taste and buy excellent local wine, or you can visit their wine museum.
The Area
Ventenac is the perfect base for exploring the Languedoc area - and is just 30 minutes from the seemingly endless Mediterranean beaches near Narbonne. Its one hour to the mountains of the Pyrenees, with the pretty resort of Collioure, near Perpignan. Spain, with Barcelona and Figueros (Dali Museum) are all possible for a day trip.
To the west, it is 30 minutes to Carcassonne - the magnificent medieval city and castle. Between Carcassonne and Ventenac runs the Canal du Midi - perfect for exploring by bicycle, boat, walking, or just for lazing and having a picnic under the trees. Close too is the gorge hugging Cathar village of Minerve, 30 minutes in the hills of the Minervois - well known for their potent red wines.

Cordes-sur-CielDescription: Farmhouse
Set in softly rolling hills overlooking the pretty Cerou valley, we are situated between the stunning hilltop town of Cordes sur Ciel and the medieval village of Monesties. Recently renovated the farmhouse is set in approximately 2 acres and is built around a central courtyard, which is now a private sunny garden where you will find the BBQ and outside eating area. The property has 4 large double bedrooms all of which are ensuite with both showers and baths. There is a very large kitchen with all modern appliances including a double oven, dishwasher and washing machine. The large airy living room has TV, VCR and CD player as well as a library of videos and books. There is a 10m x 5m floodlit pool, fitted with a child alarm for the sole use of our guests. We provide all linens including swimming towels and also cot, high chair and stair gates for our younger guests.
We provide specialist holidays for walkers and cyclists and would be pleased to help you organise a tailor made holiday to suit your group's needs.
We are ideally situated to enjoy a variety of activities and to explore the varied and beautiful surroundings of the Tarn and Aveyron. Set amidst the Gaillac wine region there are plenty of opportunities to explore the vineyards and try their produce. Close to the historic city of Albi you will able to explore its famous fortress cathedral and Toulouse Lautrec museum. There are plenty of outdoor activities include canoeing, water skiing and golf to keep the energetic entertained.

Charente-MaritimeDescription: La Forge, Valin
This large and spacious villa is set in beautiful, wooded countryside, magnificent views of which can be enjoyed from the first floor. The lovingly renovated sleeping accommodation on the first floor comprises two double rooms, one of which has an ensuite shower and toilet, a twin room and a room with bunk beds which has been furnished and decorated with children in mind. The first floor also has a large bathroom and plenty of storage space.
On the ground floor there is a completely new shower room and toilet. The large lounge features the original stone fireplace and leads onto a modern fully equipped kitchen which boasts a dishwasher as well as all the expected modern facilities.
There is also a further reception room on this level. It has a sofa bed which folds out to provide another double bed.
Finally on the ground floor there is a beautiful bright dining room with huge windows. This seats 10 and looks out over the garden.
The patio area also has dining furniture as well as a canopy to provide some shade from the sun. The garden itself has a plunge pool of 1.3 metres in depth and 4.5 metres in diameter, which is great for cooling off. There are further facilities to keep children amused such as a swing and sandpit. We have provided a gas barbeque as well as two bikes and helmets for exploring the surrounding countryside.
What is there to do?
La Forge is situated in a quaint hamlet just five minutes drive from the nearest village, Cercoux. However it is much more pleasurable to walk, or cycle, through the tranquil wooded countryside to get there. This lovely village has all the day-to-day amenities you could want including a bakery, a small supermarket, a pub with a restaurant and a garage. There is even a hairdresser! Cercoux also has sports facilities including a football pitch and tennis courts.
To the north Montguyon is a traditional French market town (Wednesdays and Saturdays) where there is a large new supermarket, a bank, a post office and a tourist information centre as well as several cafes, pubs and restaurants. Worth a quick visit, for the view if nothing else, are the ruins of Montguyon Castle which date from 1964.
Just on the other side of Montguyon there is a lake side resort with a beach as well as other activities ideal for spending a relaxing day.
Alternatively to the south there is the larger town of Coutras. It is 15 minutes drive away and has a railway station where you can catch the train north to Paris, or south to Bordeaux and of course many towns in between. Coutras itself is a market town and has several supermarkets. It is beautifully located next to a river which is colourfully decorated with flowers in the summer.
The nearest of France’s main cities is Bordeaux. It is undoubtedly worth a visit, either by train, or by using the park and ride facilities. The nearest is a 40 minute drive from the house and is cheap to use. Bordeaux has a beautiful old town centred around rue St-Catherine, reputed to be one of the longest shopping streets in Europe. There is also some beautiful architecture to see and plenty of pavement cafes perfect for relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere.
It would be a crime to come to the area and not visit St-Emilion. This beautiful town which dates back to pre-historic times is a UNESCO World Heritage site and its Romanesque churches alone would take a day to visit. Of course St-Emilion is one of the principle wines of the Bordeaux region and it would be a shame not to sample this local speciality in one of the city’s many cafes and restaurants.

DordogneDescription: Le Bourg
Le Bourg is a beautiful traditional French house which sleeps 4, situated at the heart of a pretty French village. The house was formerly the village post office so has always played an important role in village life. It sits with a commanding view over the surrounding countryside both to the front and to the back. In front of the house there is one of the village squares with the community hall just across the road.
Entering the house through the large recently installed French doors you find yourself in the bright kitchen dining area. The fully-equipped modern kitchen is brand new and has everything you’ll need for creating some delicious meals with the local ingredients. There is dining furniture with enough room for 6 and also a small closed-in stove in the fireplace, which you may want to light as the sun goes down on autumn evenings. At the back of the house on the ground level there is also a small WC.
Next to the kitchen there is a large bright living room which also benefits from large French doors which look out to the front. The living room can comfortably seat 6 and there is a television and dvd player as well as some books for your use.
On the first floor there is a large landing area where we have put a fold down couch. This could be used to sleep a fifth person. Next door is the master bedroom where all the furniture is new and you can enjoy beautiful views of your surroundings. Also on the first floor there is a large family bathroom with separate bath and shower.
When you climb the spiral staircase from the landing you find yourself in the newly renovated attic bedroom. This has twin beds and a television and has been decorated with children in mind.
Full linen is provided and is changed once a week. Electricity is included in the rental.
What is there to do?
The village itself, Limeyrat, is a pretty and quiet village in the Dordogne. Despite the tranquillity the house is next door to the village bakery so perfect for picking up the morning croissants. The shop also stocks most of the essentials so if you forget something at the supermarket it is ideal. The village also has a post office, a restaurant and a bar. The village is big enough that you could spend some time walking round in particular the old church which is still used is worth a visit.
A five minute drive from Limeyrat will bring you to the village of Ajat. It is worth noting for two things. One is the castle which dominates the village and the second is the restaurant in an old school. We cannot recommend the food in this restaurant highly enough. It really is worth the visit and of course during the summer you can sit outside in the evening sunshine.
The nearest town in Thenon, about 15 minutes drive away. This is a market town where you can find local produce as well as many bars and restaurants. It also has the closest petrol station, supermarket and bank.
Montignac is a larger town about 45 minutes from the house but with enough to see and do that you could visit several times. There are a whole host of bars and restaurants, particularly pretty are those situated along the river. It is at Montignac that you will find the Lascaux cave UNESCO world heritage site. This opportunity to see the prehistoric are works should not be missed. Montignac also boasts a network of narrow streets with some interesting shops. There is also a market every Wednesday and Saturday.
We would also encourage you to visit any of the towns in the Dordogne, for example Perigueux, which is only half an hour away. It has a beautiful centre with ample parking, lots of shops and a cinema.
Depending on how much you want to drive you may wish to visit Bordeaux. The house is situated very close to the A89 autoroute so making the trip fairly simple. It takes a little over an hour to get there but once you do it is easy to reach the city centre, just follow signs for the park and ride and the tram will take you right to the heart of the city. The parking and the tram ride is only one cheap ticket. Bordeaux has a beautiful old town centred around rue St-Catherine, reputed to be one of the longest shopping streets in Europe. There is also some beautiful architecture to see and plenty of pavement cafes perfect for relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere.
